NICOLA GIOVANELLI

I am originally from the Primiero Valley in Trentino.

I have been cross-country skiing since I was a child, then I took up orienteering, which allowed me to travel and participate in two junior world championships.

My passion for the mountains and endurance sports naturally led me to skyrunning and trail running.

My journey

I have combined sport and academic training: a degree in Sports Science from Padua, a master’s degree in Sports Science from Udine and a PhD dedicated to the study of the physiology and biomechanics of ultra-endurance activities, with a particular focus on trail running.

ARTICLES, COLLABORATIONS AND PUBLICATIONS

In my 13-year academic career, I have published over 30 scientific articles on key topics such as running and walking uphill or the use of walking poles.

I have been coaching since 2010, initially friends and acquaintances, then an increasingly wider audience. Today, alongside my work as a coach, I also provide consulting services for outdoor companies: I collaborate with Petzl and La Sportiva in managing athletes and write for trade magazines.

I am the author of the book Trail Running & Ultra Trail, now in its third edition with Mulatero Editore, an unexpected success in terms of sales and acclaim.

My number one rule? Every decision and recommendation is grounded in solid scientific evidence.
